Logan Lightning FC is excited to announce the re-signing of Rick Coghlan as First

Team Men's Head Coach, and James Coutts as First Team Men's Player/Assistant Coach for 2022.

Securing the signatures of our Senior Men's coaching staff has been a high priority for the club as we look to continue building on the foundations laid in recent years, and we are thrilled to confirm their return for another year.

Coghlan, who will enter his third season at the helm having guided our Men to the FQPL Double in 2020 and promotion to this season's NPL, says his focus and ambitions for the club remain as strong as ever.

"I am so pleased to re-sign for 2022, I entered the club with a strong vision of where we wanted to get to and that has certainly not changed.

"This season brought some fresh challenges to us all and that is part of the process, our job now is to continue working harder than ever and look at ways to improve as a group for the remainder of this year and into next.

"Ultimately, we want to keep striving to improve our environment and program year on year and I am excited for the future here".

Coutts, who will also go into his third year in maroon & white, was just as excited for what's to come.

"I think this season has been a great learning curve for us and the club and I have no doubt we will continue building on that.

"I believe we are heading in the right direction with some great people behind the scenes, so it really was an easy decision to re-sign.

"I'm looking forward to next season, working with Rick again and building on the hard work of these past two years".

Logan FC is thrilled to kick start the off-season with a bang and announce our first signing for NPL QLD 2022 – Welcome, Carlos Saliadarre!

The immensely experienced 32-year-old shot stopper joins from Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC in NPL New South Wales and is sure to add a wealth of experience to our club.

With over 300 competitive first team appearances, 15 seasons in senior football and 3 NPL NSW Goalkeeper of the Year awards to his name, “King Carlos” is widely regarded as one of NSW most talented goalkeepers.

A club captain at both Blacktown Spartans Football Club and Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC, Saliadarre was also a member of the 2013 Western Sydney Wanderers FC A-League Premiership winning and Grand Final runners-up squad.
Having recently made the move to QLD for family reasons, Saliadarre had no shortage of suitors for next season however it is the project ahead and environment which attracted him to pull on the maroon & white.

“I love the challenge that lays ahead for 2022, playing my part in the history of a recently promoted club and looking to establish ourselves further in the top tier.

“Rick (Coghlan) was also a massive reason I decided to sign here. He was more than welcoming in allowing me to train with the team whilst transitioning up and still committed Mount Druitt.

“During this time training with him I saw how passionate he was about football, setting standards, competing and trying to be the best you can be.

“We have a lot of similarities in that regard and I know him and James (Coutts) are building something special here so I wanted to be a part of that journey.”

“I can’t wait to get going now, the challenge of earning everyone's respect with my work ethic and commitment always excites me and I am looking forward to helping us reach our goals.”

From everyone here at LLFC, welcome, King Carlos 👑

League  Structure

The NPL is a direct outcome of the National Competition Review (NCR) which aims to:

  • Create greater consistency across the Member Federation top leagues across Australia;
  • Recognise the role that State League clubs are playing to develop players, and showcase local talent;
  • Raise overall standards in club management;
  • Improve the financial and commercial position of state leagues and clubs.

To be eligible to participate in the NPL within each Member Federation, and in addition to sporting merit, clubs must meet uniform national criteria including:

  • Total number of teams and age groups;
  • Youth development practices, including the implementation of the National Curriculum;
  • Coach accreditation criteria including the introduction of a Technical Director in each club;
  • Organisational planning including finance, business planning and organisational structure;
  • Greater oversight regarding the charging of player registration fees;
  • Facility standards and improvement;
  • Adoption of a player points system which incentivises clubs to develop players through their youth team structure as well as produce talent which progresses to national pathway programs and the Y-League, A-League, Westfield W-League and Football Australia National Teams.

Each Football Australia Member Federation will manage their local division of the NPL, which culminates in the NPL Finals Series at the end of each winter season involving the league premiers of each Member Federation's NPL division. Currently, this only applies to the Men’s NPL until such time until we are able to integrate all states/territories to adopt the Women’s NPL competition.

The NPL represents an important step in the realisation of Football Australia's strategic vision to make Australia a world class football nation and to better connect elite player development and the wider football community.
